AROUND THE GROUND

2012 Pre Season Training

Training will re-commence at 6pm on Monday 23rd January 2012 at Newlyn.

A full schedule for all the following sessions will be posted soon...

Adam Sewell and Chris Gardner appointed as joint coaches for 2012

The Newlyn Football and Netball Club are thrilled to announce that past junior, senior premiership player and best & fairest winner Adam Sewell, has been signed on as joint coach of the senior football side in 2012. Adam will be joined in this role by past Rebels and Ballarat Swans player, Chris Gardner.

Both coaches come to the club with great experience with the Ballarat Swans senior side and also the BFL interleague side. Adam was lucky enough to win a premiership with Ballarat in 2008 and since then become assistant coach and recently played his 100th senior game with the same side. Chris was struck down with shoulder injuries a couple of years ago which cut his playing days short, but has stayed involved with both Ballarat and the interleague side and will be a great addition to the coaching staff.

With other player signings completed, supporters and players can expect to see a much improved senior side in 2012.

Nathan Blomeley signs on as Assistant Coach for season 2012

Three-time Redan premiership player Nathan Blomeley will return home to Newlyn next year. Blomeley, a premiership-winning captain of the Lions in the Ballarat Football League, will join Newlyn as a playing assistant coach next year.

He played all his junior football at Newlyn and was a member of the 2003 Central Highlands Football League premiership winning side before he moved to Redan.

Blomeley was named the Central Highlands Football League Rookie of the Year in 2002 in his junior days at Newlyn.

He played in the 2006, 2007 and 2009 BFL premierships with Redan and missed this year’s flag through injury.

The club is very excited to have Nathan back on board and the experience he gained in the BFL is sure to benefit the side through his playing and also the younger players as a coach.

Luke Faull and Kade Nicholls to play for Newlyn in 2012

Past premiership player and senior Best & Fairest winner, Luke Faull has rejoined the Newlyn Football Netball Club for 2012. In another great recruiting coup for the club, Luke will be joined by fellow East Point player Kade Nicholls at the Cattery. Both players have carved out great careers in the BFL seeing them play in Grand Finals, winning Best & Fairest awards and Luke has also been lucky enough to Captain the senior team.

Not only will the two players add some midfield class to the team, they are sure to complement the coaching staff and add that extra bit of experience our young senior list needs.
